Action keys

Although Typing Buddy constantly monitors user keyboard input,by default it doesn't do anything when a trigger string is recognized. To do corresponding action associated with given trigger you have to press any of action keys.

For example if you created an Auto text action to insert your email address into text and if trigger is "email",just typing "email" in text editor will do nothing unless you tell Typing Buddy to replace "email" with actual email address. You do so by pressing a Action key.
So after typing "email" you need to press "space" bar (which is checked by default) and than Typing Buddy knows that string "email" needs to be replaced with actual email string.

In this section of Options dialog you can enable or disable certain keys according to your needs.

Tips:

  - Space bar and Right arrow are prechecked by default and in most cases (in most applications) they are working very well.

-Though it seems that "Enter" button is perfect and logical to be used as action key it can introduce few unwanted effects.
For example if you are filling some kind of web form and you wish to insert your full name or address,"enter" key  will force any browser to send your data regardless of if you filled all requested fields in the form,so you'll get a "please go back and fill all requested fields" message.
Other unwanted effect can be if used somewhere in Windows Explorer.
Let's say we have a trigger "em1". Typing "em1" somewhere on the Desktop end pressing "enter" will do corresponding action but typing "em1" will also tell Windows to select an item starting with letter "e",and after pressing "enter" Windows will launch selected file also.

-Tab key works very well in most applications but be aware that different applications can have some of its functions associated with it.

-Shift key is maybe the best solution but it is not so convenient regarding its position on keyboard."Space" bar is somehow always under your fingers no matter what are you doing.

-Keys F1..F5 are already taken in most applications (for help,go to,and similar functions),so only F6..F12 functional tasters can be used as action keys.Be aware that functional tasters also can do some actions specific for different applications.
